The Ekiti State Government has approved the reuse of textbooks by younger siblings, provided the books remain in good condition, as part of measures to reduce the financial burden on parents and make education more affordable.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, Bayode Ogunmola, said the government had no plans to reverse its existing textbook review policy.

Under the policy, primary school textbooks will continue to be reviewed once every six years, while the review cycle for secondary school textbooks has been extended from every three years to once every four years, in line with the guidelines of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

The ministry also reaffirmed that the ban on graduation ceremonies for pupils in kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary schools—both public and private—remains in force.

According to the government, the policy, which took effect from the 2025/2026 academic session, was introduced to ease financial pressure on families and discourage the excessive spending and social competition often associated with school graduation ceremonies.

The government stressed that both policies remain non-negotiable and directed school owners, administrators, parents and other stakeholders to comply fully, warning that violators would face appropriate sanctions.

The ministry added that the reforms are part of the state’s commitment to making education more accessible, affordable and beneficial to every child in Ekiti State.
