First Lady, Remi Tinubu to Visit Abia State on Tuesday

• First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will visit Abia on Tuesday to celebrate the famous Akwete weaving heritage, tour the historic weaving cooperative, and attend a civic reception hosted by Governor Alex Otti.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to visit Abia State on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to celebrate the state’s renowned Akwete weaving heritage.

According to a statement issued by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the First Lady will be received by Governor Alex Otti and his wife, Priscilla Otti, during the official visit.

A major highlight of the trip will be a visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Society in Akwete, Ukwa East Local Government Area, where Senator Tinubu will meet master weavers and observe the traditional craftsmanship that has earned Akwete textiles international recognition.

Following the tour, the First Lady and Governor Otti will attend a grand civic reception at the Akwete Central School Field, where residents and dignitaries are expected to gather in celebration of the historic visit and the community’s rich cultural heritage.

The Abia State Government has called on residents, particularly those in Ukwa East and neighbouring communities, to turn out in large numbers to give the First Lady a warm welcome.

Akwete cloth, handwoven for centuries in Ukwa East, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most treasured cultural exports and remains an important source of livelihood for many women in the community.
