Fuel price today in Nigeria is still moving across major cities, with motorists in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano paying different pump prices depending on the filling station, product source and location.

As of Sunday, July 19, 2026, petrol prices are not the same everywhere. Some NNPC and major marketer stations may still sell lower than independent stations, while outlets supplied by higher-priced imported cargoes may adjust their pump prices upward.

This report focuses mainly on Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly called petrol.

Fuel Price Today by City

CityExpected PMS Price Range Today
Lagos₦1,170 – ₦1,300 per litre
Abuja₦1,210 – ₦1,400 per litre
Port Harcourt₦1,230 – ₦1,400 per litre
Kano₦1,222 – ₦1,400 per litre

These figures are market ranges, not a fixed national price. Motorists may see slightly lower or higher prices depending on the filling station.

Fuel Price Today in Lagos

Petrol price in Lagos is generally among the lowest in the country because the state is close to major depots and fuel supply points.

Some recent market reports showed Lagos among the lower-priced locations, especially at NNPC and major marketer outlets. However, depot price changes can still affect retail prices quickly.

Motorists in Lagos should expect petrol around ₦1,170 to ₦1,300 per litre, depending on the station and area.

Fuel Price Today in Abuja

Fuel price in Abuja is usually higher than Lagos because of transportation and distribution costs from major depots.

Recent reports showed Abuja prices around ₦1,210 per litre at some NNPC outlets, while independent stations may sell higher. With importers reportedly raising depot prices, some stations may move closer to ₦1,380 or ₦1,400 per litre.

Motorists in Abuja should compare prices before filling up, especially around busy routes.

Fuel Price Today in Port Harcourt

Port Harcourt has depot activity, but pump prices still vary widely depending on the marketer. Some depot reports recently placed Port Harcourt PMS loading prices above Lagos levels, which can affect retail pump prices.

Fuel Price Today in Kano

Kano fuel prices are usually affected by longer distribution routes and logistics costs. Northern cities often pay slightly higher than Lagos and some southern states.

Recent NNPC retail data placed Kano around ₦1,222 per litre, but independent marketers may sell higher, especially if depot prices continue to rise.

Today, petrol in Kano may sell between ₦1,222 and ₦1,400 per litre, depending on the station.

Why Fuel Price Is Changing Again

Fuel prices are changing because Nigeria’s downstream market is now largely deregulated. This means pump prices can rise or fall based on:

  • Crude oil price
  • Exchange rate
  • Depot price
  • Import cost
  • Dangote Refinery pricing
  • Transportation cost
  • Marketers’ margins
  • Station location
  • Availability of supply

Reports from July 2026 show that importers notified marketers of a possible depot price increase from about ₦1,230 to ₦1,350 per litre, which could push pump prices higher in some locations.

Should Motorists Expect Another Increase?

There may be further adjustments if depot prices rise or if imported petrol becomes more expensive. However, prices may also fall again if local supply improves and competition among marketers continues.

For now, motorists should avoid panic buying. Fuel is still available in major cities, but prices may differ sharply from one station to another.

How to Save Money on Fuel

Motorists can reduce fuel spending by doing the following:

  • Compare prices at nearby stations before buying.
  • Use NNPC or major marketer outlets where prices are lower.
  • Avoid unnecessary idling in traffic.
  • Service your vehicle regularly.
  • Keep tyres properly inflated.
  • Avoid panic buying or storing petrol unsafely.
  • Join local fuel price update groups for your area.

Fuel price today in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano remains unstable, with most motorists paying between ₦1,170 and ₦1,400 per litre depending on location and station.

Lagos still appears cheaper than many cities, while Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano may record higher retail prices due to logistics and marketer pricing.
