Spain completed a remarkable campaign by winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Argentina 1-0 in Sunday’s final at the New York New Jersey Stadium to lift the trophy for the second time in the nation’s history.

La Roja claimed their first World Cup title since 2010 and became the first team to win the tournament after conceding just one goal throughout the competition.

Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, settled for second place after falling short in the final, while England secured third place with a thrilling 6-4 victory over France in the third-place playoff.

FIFA also recognised the tournament’s standout performers with individual awards.

Spain midfielder Rodri was named the Golden Ball winner after inspiring his country to World Cup glory with a series of commanding performances.

France captain Kylian Mbappé claimed the Golden Boot after finishing as the tournament’s highest scorer with 10 goals in eight matches, becoming the first player to win the award in consecutive World Cups. He also extended his record as the highest-scoring player in men’s World Cup history with 22 goals.

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón received the Golden Glove after conceding just one goal throughout the tournament, while teammate Pau Cubarsí won the Best Young Player award for his outstanding performances in defence.

The Netherlands were presented with the FIFA Fair Play Award.
