Despite Nigeria’s passport dropping to 90th place in the latest Henley Passport Index, Nigerian passport holders can still travel to 44 destinations without obtaining a visa before departure.

The July 2026 Henley Passport Index, released on Tuesday, assigned the Nigerian passport a visa-free score of 44, allowing citizens to visit selected countries through visa-free entry, visa on arrival or an electronic visa (e-Visa), depending on each country’s immigration policy.

The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports worldwide based on the number of destinations their holders can access without securing a visa before travelling. The rankings are compiled using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Although Nigeria slipped from 89th to 90th position in the latest rankings, its visa-free access score remained unchanged at 44 destinations. The country has, however, improved significantly over the years, moving up from 94th place in 2025 and 103rd position in 2021.

Travellers are advised to confirm the latest immigration and entry requirements with the embassy or immigration authorities of their destination before making travel plans
