Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, candidate of, says that herdsmen attacks in Nigeria have continued because the government is unwilling to go after killer herders and those who support their heinous missions in the country.

VerseNews reports that Sowore who is also the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 presidential election in a post on Tuesday via his verified X handle condemned the killing of scores of residents in several communities of Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas of Plateau State on Christmas Day.

He added that the body language of the Nigerian government over the years showed that the criminals enjoyed certain privileges. He identified it as the reason why they have continued to operate in the country.

Sowore said, “Plateau Christmas Massacre: It is NOT just only sad that Nigerians are consistently slaughtered by well-known herdsmen in Plateau and several places across Nigeria, what’s despicable is that successive Nigerian rulers know these killing machines and their backers (that’s if and when they are not DIRECTLY backed and sponsored by Nigerian elites in govt. It is clear to all that these genocidaires enjoy a special status. #RevolutionNow.”

VerseNews had reported how the gunmen invaded the Plateau communities, set several houses ablaze, looted farm produce and destroyed properties during the attacks.

The local government chairman went on to say that the number of casualties was growing as more bodies were recovered by the team of security personnel, local vigilantes, and hunters who were still combing the bushes for missing people who were ambushed during the attacks.

Reacting, the AAC in a post on X earlier described the incident as heart-wrenching, adding that like his predecessor (Muhammadu Buhari), President Bola Tinubu was not ready to end insecurity.

“The killings on Christmas Day, from the Plateau to Katsina is heart-wrenching. This is one bad news too many for Nigerians. Just like @MBuhari, @officialABAT lacks the political will to fight insecurity the way it should be fought. Enough is Enough,” the party wrote.

Likewise, a chieftain of the party and activist, Femi Adeyeye also demanded the immediate resumption of Tinubu to office to curb the menace.

He said, “We in the AAC demand that full actions to curb this menace be taken immediately and that the supposed Commander-in-Chief @officialABAT resumes “duty”. Tinubu should not be seen clinking glasses in Lagos while poor Nigerians are left for slaughter. #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”
