- Jude Bellingham has etched his name into England’s history books once again, becoming the youngest player ever to reach 50 caps for the Three Lions, surpassing a record previously held by Wayne Rooney.

Jude Bellingham’s remarkable rise continues.
After being named in England’s starting lineup against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Real Madrid star made history by becoming the youngest player ever to earn 50 caps for England’s men’s national team.
At just 22 years and 359 days old, Bellingham surpassed the previous record set by England legend Wayne Rooney, who reached the milestone at 23 years and 159 days.
The achievement is another testament to Bellingham’s meteoric rise and England’s growing trust in young talent. In fact, four of the seven youngest players to reach 50 England appearances have done so since 2020.
A Journey That Started at 17
Bellingham made his England debut in November 2020 at just 17 years and 137 days old, becoming the third-youngest player ever to represent the Three Lions.
He came on as a substitute during a friendly against the Republic of Ireland, played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Few could have predicted then that less than six years later, he would already have reached the 50-cap milestone.
Big Moments Are Bellingham’s Specialty
Bellingham scored his first England goal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, heading home against Iran to open England’s scoring in Qatar.
Since then, the midfielder has developed a reputation for delivering when it matters most.
At UEFA Euro 2024, he scored the winning goal against Serbia before producing one of the tournament’s defining moments—an incredible overhead kick against Slovakia in stoppage time that rescued England from elimination.
The spectacular strike remains England’s latest-ever goal in regulation time at a European Championship, arriving in the 94th minute.
Impressive Numbers for the Three Lions
In his first 49 England appearances, Bellingham registered:
⚽ 7 goals
🎯 7 assists
His latest goal contribution came in England’s opening 2026 World Cup victory over Croatia, where he scored in a thrilling 4-2 win.
That strike also made him one of only five European players to score in each of the last three major international tournaments—and the youngest player to achieve the feat.
A Man for the Biggest Stages
Perhaps most impressively, four of Bellingham’s seven England goals have come at major tournaments, meaning 57 percent of his goals for the national team have arrived on football’s biggest stages—the highest ratio of any England player with more than five international goals.
At just 22 years old, Bellingham has already broken records, starred at multiple major tournaments, and become one of England’s most important players.
And if his incredible journey so far is any indication, this latest milestone is only the beginning. ⚽🏴🔥
