The Presidency has strongly rejected claims by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi that the Federal Government is frustrating his activities and that he may not be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Reacting on Wednesday, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Obi’s allegations as “unfounded and misleading,” accusing him of turning personal inconveniences into claims of political persecution.

Obi had made the remarks during an interview, alleging that everything he does is being deliberately frustrated by the current administration.

“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating. There is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive,” Obi had said.

Responding in a post on X, Onanuga argued that Obi’s complaints, including an incident involving his vehicle at the airport, were being exaggerated to create a false narrative against the government.

“Peter Obi’s recent claims of being targeted by the government are simply unfounded and misleading,” Onanuga said.

He further described Obi’s suggestion that he may not survive until the 2027 election as “a fabricated narrative” designed to attract public sympathy.

“His claim that he may not be alive for the January 2027 election… is nothing more than a fabricated narrative, a page from his book of lies and propaganda,” he stated.

Onanuga also dismissed suggestions that the Federal Government was targeting Fidelity Bank because of Obi’s reported interest in the financial institution, insisting the bank continues to thrive under the current administration’s economic reforms.

The presidential aide maintained that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains focused on governance and implementing reforms, adding that it has no interest in distracting itself with what he described as Obi’s “self-serving narratives.”
