The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced its participation in the Civil Society Presentation of the Cole-Moore Recommendations held in Washington, D.C., describing the event as a significant platform for discussions on human rights, security, and justice issues in Nigeria.

According to a statement issued by IPOB spokesperson and Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group’s delegation was led by the Head of the 4th Directorate of State, Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, alongside Mike Arnold, Dr. Green, and other representatives.

The event reportedly brought together Members of Congress, policy experts, faith leaders, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders concerned about the worsening security and human rights situation in Nigeria.

IPOB stated that discussions at the meeting focused on alleged attacks against Christian communities, the plight of vulnerable ethnic groups, growing insecurity across the country, and the need for increased international engagement to address these challenges.

During the presentation, the delegation also highlighted the continued detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, raising concerns about his extraordinary rendition and its implications for human rights, due process, and the rule of law.

The group reiterated its position that the Biafra issue should be resolved through peaceful dialogue and the exercise of the right to self-determination, which it described as internationally recognized.

IPOB further commended the organizers of the Washington event and participants who continue to draw attention to issues affecting communities in Nigeria. The group expressed optimism over what it described as growing international interest in the challenges facing people in the former Eastern Region.

The organization pledged to continue engaging with policymakers, faith-based groups, civil society organizations, and international partners in its pursuit of what it called freedom, security, justice, and accountability.

The statement concluded with the group’s declaration that “the struggle continues.”
