Lagos Law School Student Dies After Jumping From Four-Storey Hostel

A 23-year-old Nigerian Law School student, Faith Alayande, has died in a suspected suicide incident at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos, with police confirming that an investigation is ongoing.

A 23-year-old student of the Nigerian Law School, Faith Alayande, has died in a suspected suicide incident at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the student was found unresponsive within the hostel premises on Friday.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the incident was reported to the police by the hostel matron after the student was found unresponsive.

According to Adebisi, a hostel mate and a relative of the deceased reportedly discovered a note that raised concern and began searching for her.

She said the student was later found within the hostel premises.

Adebisi confirmed that police officers visited the scene following the report and that the deceased was taken to a morgue for preservation.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who also reported the incident on X, said the student was found within the hostel premises in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to Makama, the Chief Matron of the Law School, Mrs Juliana Igbokwe, reported the incident at the Victoria Island Police Division at about 6:30am.

He said preliminary observations suggested that the student may have fallen from the rooftop of the four-storey hostel building.

The police have commenced an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The incident comes amid previous reports of deaths involving students of the Nigerian Law School.

In December 2025, VerseNews reported the death of another Nigerian Law School student, Ayomiposi Ojajuni, at the institution’s Yola campus in Adamawa State.

Ojajuni, a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, was reportedly barred from sitting for the Bar Final examinations after receiving a series of queries from the school authorities.

Police authorities have yet to disclose further details on the circumstances surrounding Alayande’s death as investigations continue.
