- Michael Olise has become the first player in FIFA World Cup history to record seven assists in a single tournament, surpassing Pelé’s 56-year-old record during France’s third-place playoff against England.

France winger Michael Olise has written his name into FIFA World Cup history after breaking Pelé’s long-standing record for the most assists in a single tournament.
The Bayern Munich star registered his seventh assist of the 2026 FIFA World Cup during France’s thrilling third-place playoff against England, surpassing the previous record of six assists set by Brazilian legend Pelé at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

Olise’s historic achievement came after he provided two assists for Kylian Mbappé, helping the France captain score his ninth and tenth goals of the tournament in an entertaining encounter.
The 24-year-old began his remarkable World Cup campaign by assisting Mbappé in France’s opening match against Senegal before recording two assists each against Iraq and Sweden, leaving him one shy of the record heading into the bronze medal match.
His latest two assists have now taken him to seven, making him the player with the most assists in a single FIFA World Cup in history.
Olise’s outstanding World Cup form follows an exceptional 2025/26 season with Bayern Munich, where he contributed 15 goals and 19 assists in the Bundesliga, playing a key role as the German giants won both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.
