- The Delta State Police Command has arrested a commercial motorcyclist for allegedly abducting a three-year-old girl he was hired to transport to and from school before collecting a ₦500,000 ransom from her family.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a motorcycle rider for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl he was employed to take to and from school and collecting a ₦500,000 ransom from her family.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the incident in a video shared on X on Thursday.
According to Edafe, the suspect, identified as Kelvin Ogaga, was hired by the child’s parents to transport her between home and school for a monthly fee of ₦10,000.
He reportedly carried out the assignment for about three weeks before allegedly abducting the child instead of taking her to school.
“On that fateful day, instead of taking the child to school, he took the child elsewhere and began calling the parents with another phone line, demanding a ransom of ₦2 million,” Edafe said.
The police spokesman explained that the suspect switched off his personal phone to avoid suspicion, while the kidnappers allegedly warned the family not to involve the police, threatening to kill the child if they did.
Despite the threats, the family reported the incident to the police. The kidnappers later reduced their demand, and the family eventually paid ₦500,000 before the child was released unharmed.
Edafe said the command immediately launched an intelligence-led investigation, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the recovery of part of the ransom money.
During interrogation, Ogaga reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming he was persuaded by a friend identified only as Omo.
The suspect told investigators he was facing financial difficulties and agreed to participate in the kidnapping after discussions with his friend. He also alleged that his girlfriend was aware of and involved in planning the abduction.
Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspected accomplices linked to the crime.
“The good part is that the child is safe, the suspect has been arrested and part of the ransom money has been recovered,” Edafe said.
The police spokesperson urged parents and guardians to carry out proper background checks before entrusting their children to transporters, caregivers or other service providers.
