The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a new digital portal that automates drug integrity tests and visa clearance, ending manual delays and curbing certificate forgery in Nigeria.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has unveiled a new digital portal designed to simplify and secure the process of conducting drug integrity tests and visa clearance across Nigeria.

The system, officially launched at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, marks a major step toward digitizing the agency’s core operations, including the Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System (DITViCAS).

According to NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), the initiative represents “a paradigm shift in our fight against the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking — where enforcement meets efficiency.”

Represented by the Agency’s Secretary, Shadrach Haruna, Marwa explained that the platform eliminates the bureaucratic delays that have long plagued manual clearance processes. Applicants can now log on to the official NDLEA portal, create an account, and complete all necessary steps — from scheduling drug tests to generating digital certificates.

The new system also enables private medical centres to partner with NDLEA as accredited testing sites, offering flexibility for individuals and institutions. Certificates are now generated electronically, reducing the risk of falsification — a growing concern in previous manual procedures.

Marwa emphasized that the digital transition supports President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, reinforcing the agency’s two-pronged strategy: Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction.

He added that the E-Certification and Verification feature ensures transparency and allows NDLEA commands nationwide to supervise the process in real time through centralized dashboards.

The system also expands access to students of tertiary institutions, prospective couples, and corporate organizations, providing a verified process for voluntary drug testing without stigma.

“It’s a non-judgmental pathway designed to foster healthier communities and safer workplaces,” Marwa said. “This is the future of our War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign — proactive, compassionate, and data-driven.”

With this innovation, NDLEA says visa clearance certificates can now be completed within three days, or a maximum of one week in special cases — a significant improvement over the previous manual system that often took weeks.

Marwa concluded by urging stakeholders and the public to embrace the new technology:

“The war against drug abuse is one we must win — for the sake of our youth, our families, and the future of our nation. With technology as our ally, we are stronger and more resolved than ever before.”
