The Nigeria Immigration Service has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to help Nigerians with pending passport applications, new applications and passport renewals.

The intervention began on August 10, 2026, and is targeted at reducing delays faced by Nigerians living in the UK who have been waiting for passport processing, enrolment or issuance.

The team is working with the Nigerian High Commission in the UK and is expected to visit designated cities for passport enrolment and processing.

Who Can Benefit From The NIS UK Passport Intervention?

The exercise is open to three major categories of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

They include:

  1. Nigerians with pending passport applications
  2. Nigerians applying for a fresh Nigerian passport
  3. Nigerians whose passports have less than one year before expiry and want to renew

This means that Nigerians who have already paid and submitted applications but are still waiting may be able to use the intervention to resolve delays.

It also means that first-time applicants and those close to passport expiry may be able to complete enrolment through the special exercise.

Why NIS Sent A Passport Team To The UK

Many Nigerians in the UK have complained about delays in passport appointment, biometric enrolment, renewal and delivery.

For some applicants, passport delays affect travel plans, visa renewal, work documentation, school processing, banking, immigration status updates and family emergencies.

The special intervention is meant to bring passport services closer to Nigerians in different parts of the UK instead of forcing everyone to depend only on existing arrangements.

What Applicants Must Bring

Applicants are expected to present:

  • Completed passport application form
  • Proof of payment
  • Relevant supporting documents
  • Old passport, where applicable
  • NIN details that match the passport application
  • Appointment or application documents, if already generated

Applicants should also keep copies of all payment receipts and application slips.

Should Nigerians Go To The High Commission Immediately?

No. Applicants should not travel to any location until the official schedule is released.

The NIS said the detailed schedule will include the cities, dates, venues, enrolment times and other arrangements.

This is important because the intervention team will not operate randomly in every city. Nigerians in the UK should wait for official communication before travelling, booking hotels or paying for transport.

Will The Team Visit Cities Outside London?

Yes, the intervention is expected to cover designated cities across the United Kingdom.

This is important for Nigerians who live outside London and have had to travel long distances for passport processing.

However, the exact cities and venues must come from official communication channels before applicants attend.

Is The Contactless Passport Application Still Working?

Yes. The digital passport application channels remain open.

The Contactless Passport Application System and home delivery service are expected to continue during the intervention exercise.

This means eligible Nigerians may still use online passport services where available, while those who need physical enrolment can follow the intervention schedule when released.

What Nigerians In The UK Should Do Now

If you are affected by the passport delay, the best step is to prepare your documents before the schedule is announced.

You should:

  1. Confirm that your NIN details match your passport application
  2. Print your application form
  3. Keep your payment receipt safe
  4. Check your passport expiry date
  5. Monitor official updates from the Nigerian High Commission
  6. Avoid unofficial agents promising faster service
  7. Do not attend any venue until it is officially announced

Why This Matters For Nigerians Abroad

A valid passport is not only for travel. Many Nigerians abroad need it for visa renewal, residence permits, job checks, university documentation, banking and emergency movement.
