Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling hunger and child malnutrition through the establishment of community food banks and the expansion of food outreach programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

She made the disclosure on Tuesday during the distribution of food items to vulnerable groups in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Represented at the event by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the First Lady said the initiative forms part of the administration’s broader efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians and ensure that children have access to adequate nutrition for healthy growth and development.

According to her, the Renewed Hope Initiative complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by supporting Nigerians regardless of their background while addressing food insecurity and malnutrition.

She explained that the programme is focused on helping vulnerable households meet their nutritional needs and improving their overall well-being.

“No Nigerian should go hungry. That is our mandate and part of our vision for the Renewed Hope Initiative,” she said.

Oluremi Tinubu noted that the Food Outreach Scheme, launched in March 2024, provides food items to persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups across the country.

She revealed that the programme is sustained through the support of two major donors who provide two truckloads of food items every month, enabling two states to benefit from the intervention monthly.

The First Lady said the initiative reflects the administration’s determination to reduce hunger and improve food security, particularly among low-income families.

Aiyedatiwa Commends Initiative

Speaking at the event, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the intervention as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to poverty alleviation and social welfare.

He said the programme goes beyond food distribution, describing it as an expression of compassion, solidarity, and a shared commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

The governor commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for identifying and addressing critical challenges affecting communities across the country.

Aiyedatiwa also reaffirmed Ondo State’s political support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“We have already declared Ondo State for Tinubu 2027, and we remain unwavering in our resolve to deliver en masse in the Sunshine State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term,” the governor said.

He stressed that food security remains essential to human dignity, economic productivity, and social stability, noting that access to adequate nutrition enables children to learn effectively, eases the burden on families, and contributes to national development.

The governor urged beneficiaries to see the food distribution programme as part of ongoing efforts to build stronger and more resilient communities through social investment and inclusive welfare programmes.
