- A worker has died and seven others were injured after a section of the New Gombe State House of Assembly Complex under construction collapsed, prompting Governor Inuwa Yahaya to order an immediate investigation.

A section of the New Gombe State House of Assembly Complex currently under construction has collapsed, leaving one worker dead and seven others injured.
The Permanent Secretary of the Gombe State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, Danladi Adamu, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, describing it as unfortunate.
According to Adamu, the collapse affected a section of the cantilevered entrance canopy that was under construction.
He said eight workers were involved in the incident, with seven sustaining varying degrees of injuries before they were rushed to hospital for treatment.
“The incident involved eight workers, where seven sustained injuries and were immediately evacuated for medical attention at the hospital. Five are receiving treatment at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while two others are being treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. Regrettably, one life was lost,” Adamu said.
He disclosed that Governor Inuwa Yahaya had been briefed on the incident and had expressed condolences to the family of the deceased worker.
The governor also directed that all injured workers receive comprehensive medical treatment at the state’s expense.
According to Adamu, Yahaya further instructed the Ministry of Works, alongside relevant emergency, regulatory and technical agencies, to immediately begin safety and accountability procedures.
The governor also directed the contractor handling the project and the supervising consultant to submit a Formal Incident Report (FIR) within 24 hours.
The report is expected to be followed by a preliminary investigation and a comprehensive technical report detailing the cause of the collapse, findings and recommendations.
Adamu quoted the governor as assuring that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and in accordance with established engineering and safety standards.
He reiterated the Gombe State Government’s commitment to ensuring strict compliance with safety, quality and engineering standards in the execution of all public infrastructure projects.
