The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that a teacher, Mrs. Dim Ebere, who is accused of allegedly flogging a 12-year-old pupil to death, has surrendered to the police following days of intensive manhunt.
The 47-year-old suspect voluntarily reported to the Neni Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area after sustained operations by the Command’s Safe School Protection Squad.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation was carried out in collaboration with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters and with support from community leaders and other stakeholders in Adazi-Ani.
According to the police, the suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, where the investigation into the boy’s death will be concluded.
The command commended members of the Adazi-Ani community and the traditional institution for their cooperation, which it said contributed to the suspect’s surrender.
Police also assured the deceased’s family and the public that justice would be served, urging residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and continue providing useful information to support ongoing investigations.
The suspect had been declared wanted after the 12-year-old boy allegedly died from injuries reportedly sustained during a flogging at a school in Adazi-Enu, Anaocha Local Government Area.
