England captain Harry Kane has been left out of the starting lineup for the Three Lions’ 2026 FIFA World Cup third-place playoff against France, sparking questions from fans.
Despite being one of England’s standout performers throughout the tournament, Kane is not starting the match due to a tactical decision by manager Thomas Tuchel, not because of injury or suspension.
Tuchel has opted to rotate his squad after England’s demanding World Cup campaign, selecting Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Ivan Toney to lead the attack against France.
Although Kane begins the match on the bench, he remains available for selection and is expected to play a role later in the game if needed. The Bayern Munich striker could be introduced in the second half to provide experience and attacking firepower, especially if England are chasing a result.
Kane also remains in contention for the tournament’s Golden Boot, making a substitute appearance an opportunity to add to his goal tally before the 2026 FIFA World Cup concludes.
