Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has strongly criticised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over her recent claim that the burden on the Federal Government is enormous, insisting that the administration should be held accountable for the promises it made before taking office.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News, Falz reacted to remarks made by the First Lady during the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Lokoja, Kogi State, where she urged top Afrobeats stars such as Burna Boy, Davido and Asake to establish charitable foundations to support poor Nigerians.

Responding to her statement that “the burden on the government is huge,” Falz questioned why the administration was complaining about responsibilities it actively sought.

“What do you mean, pressure on the government? Did anyone beg you to take up this work?” he asked.

The rapper also referenced President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 campaign slogan, “Emi Lokan” (“It’s my turn”), arguing that the government should not now complain about the challenges of governing.

“If this is what you’ve been waiting for all along, how can you now say the pressure is too much?” he said.

Falz further criticised the government’s spending priorities, pointing to expenditures on vehicles, aircraft and other acquisitions while insecurity and economic hardship continue to affect millions of Nigerians.

According to him, asking celebrities and private individuals to shoulder social welfare responsibilities amounts to shifting the government’s constitutional duties onto citizens.

His comments come after the First Lady’s appeal to entertainers sparked widespread debate online, with many Nigerians arguing that tackling poverty and providing social support remain core responsibilities of the government.
