Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election has congratulated the talented Super Eagles player, Victor Osimhen for wining the prestigious Footballer of the Year award for 2023 at the esteemed AIC Oscar del Calcio Awards.

This remarkable achievement comes as no surprise, considering Osimhen’s pivotal role in leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years earlier this year.

With an impressive tally of 26 league goals, the Nigerian sensation rightfully claimed the coveted prize at the Italian Footballers’ Association Footballer of the Year ceremony on Monday night.

“Victor Osimhen is the 2022/23 Footballer of the Year,” the awardees tweeted while announcing the 24-year-old as the winner.

Reacting to the achievement, VerseNews reports that Peter Obi in a series of tweet on his official X handle said regardless the obtacles face by Nigerian youths, they still rise and succeed.

The former Anambra State governor revealed that mission is to see a New Nigeria where every youth will have the platform to explore their talents, develop their skills, contribute to national development and compete effectively on the global stage

He wrote; “I would like to heartily congratulate our own International superstar, @victorosimhen9, who just won the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 Serie A Season.

“Osimhen who stars for SSC Napoli got the award after leading his club to the Italian league championship after scoring a record 25 goals to become the league’s highest goals scorer, the first African footballer to achieve the feat in that country.

“He was also the first Nigerian to be named in the top ten of the Ballon d’Or, and also made the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF Footballer of the year. Such success stories of Nigerian youths as this, are not only heartwarming but rekindle the fire of hope for a better tomorrow in our youths that, irrespective of the obstacles on their way to success, they rise and succeed. I wish Osimhen more success in his football career. I am certain that every Nigerian youth is individually gifted and talented.

“My mission is to see a New Nigeria where every youth will have the platform to explore their talents, develop their skills, contribute to national development and compete effectively on the global stage

“This is my dream of a New Nigeria which is becoming more POssible by the day. -PO”
