A 56-year-old man, Olorundare Adesanmi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an FCT High Court in Kubwa for raping his 17-year-old housemaid.
VerseNews reports that the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) reported the case for prosecution.
The prosecution counsel, Mr. Arinze Mbanefo, stated that Adesanmi intentionally raped the housemaid in November 2018, resulting in her pregnancy.
The offense contravened the provisions of section 1(2) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.
Justice Asmau Akanbi-Yusuf found Adesanmi guilty, emphasizing that the evidence proved the victim was underage at the time of the crime.
Despite the defense counsel’s plea for mercy, citing the convict as a first-time offender, the judge handed down a life sentence for the rape conviction.
