Glo, MTN Resolve Interconnect Debt Dispute

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced on Thursday that the interconnect debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and Globacom Limited has been resolved amicably.

According to Reuben Muoka, Director of Public Affairs at NCC, the disconnection approval granted to MTN for the disconnection of Globacom has been withdrawn.

The collaboration between both companies took place during the 21-day extension granted by the NCC to Glo in January. At that time, 61.54 million mobile subscriptions on Glo’s network were in danger of losing the ability to make calls to MTN. However, this risk has now been resolved.

The NCC facilitated the reconciliation process between the two parties to mitigate potential disruptions to subscribers.

The Commission emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the terms and conditions of licenses, especially those outlined in interconnection agreements, for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and other licensees in the telecommunications industry.

To prevent future instances of interconnect indebtedness within the industry, the NCC will request relevant records and regular updates from MNOs and adopt a transparent approach toward industry indebtedness.

The statement reaffirms the NCC’s commitment to fostering a stable and compliant telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria.
