Lagos Government Resists Exhumation Of 12-Year-Old Chrisland Student’s Corpse

The Lagos State Government had stated that it would resist the exhumation of the corpse of 12-year-old Chrisland student, late Whitney Adeniran who died during the school inter-house sports event, in February.

VerseNews Nigeria reports that the government in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs in the State’s ministry of Justice, Mrs Grace Alo said the ministry of Justice has been notified about the ongoing dialogue on alleged plan to exhume the body of the student.

The government there assured it would resist such request when officially received.

 The statement said; “The circumstances for exhumation under the Coroners’ Systems Law, 2015, do not arise in this case.

“Additionally, it is not our intention to further traumatise the deceased’s family.

“We are working closely with the police who have given their reassurance that the duplicate case file would be forwarded on March 6 to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to aid speedy issuance of legal advice.

This Online News Media earlier reported that the autopsy result issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on March 1 about the student revealed the cause of her death as asphyxia and electrocution.

The mother of the deceased, Mrs. Blessing Adeniran had pleaded for justice on her daughter’s death.
