Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the newly launched facility was established to address the challenges public officials face when accessing passport services through standard routes.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a new passport front office in Abuja dedicated exclusively to serving senior public officials. The initiative aims to streamline and fast-track passport processing for top-level government personnel.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the newly launched facility was established to address the challenges public officials face when accessing passport services through standard routes.

“Before now, many top-level public servants had to abandon their official duties and endure long queues at standard passport offices,” the minister said. “It will become clear that for us to serve the nation more effectively, we must also serve those tasked with its leadership more efficiently.”

Tunji-Ojo noted that the initiative is part of a broader service reform programme spearheaded by the ministry to improve internal operations and citizen experience. He revealed that it was surprising to find that, until now, neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) had a designated passport office for public officials.

“Today marks a turning point as we begin to bridge that gap and set a new course for service delivery in our nation,” he added.

He also praised the NIS for its professionalism in executing the project, describing the new office as a benchmark for quality and efficiency in public service delivery.

“This facility sets a new benchmark for excellence and will significantly improve access, reduce waiting time and thereby elevate the overall passport service delivery standard.”

The event was attended by Minister of Water Resources, Joseph Utsev, heads of agencies under the Interior Ministry, and other key stakeholders.
