A new chat shared online by actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi has revived controversy surrounding the death of late singer Mohbad.
- A new chat shared online by actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi has revived controversy surrounding the death of late singer Mohbad, with the conversation allegedly linking his widow, Olawumi, to a violent altercation before his passing.
A new chat allegedly implicating Olawumi, the widow of late singer and songwriter Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has surfaced online.
The conversation was posted on Instagram by Nollywood actor and human rights advocate Yomi Fabiyi, who recently claimed he possesses a video showing how the singer was allegedly killed. Fabiyi had also issued an urgent appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging a proper investigation into the case.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023. Despite court hearings, public protests and multiple police investigations, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unresolved.

The newly surfaced chat — dated December 11, 2024 — reportedly features Mohbad’s younger brother, Adura, claiming he possesses a video showing a fight involving the late singer. In the alleged message, he demanded ₦3 million to release the footage.

According to the chat shared by Fabiyi, Adura claimed the video captured moments where Mohbad and a woman named Cynthia were involved in an altercation and that Wunmi — Mohbad’s partner — allegedly pushed him, causing him to hit his head on the floor.
The message reads in part:
“Hello Mr activist. I’ve a video of the fight with Cynthia and my brother. I want 3 million naira before I send the video. The video get where Wunmi push my brother and e use his head nack floor.”
Fabiyi’s post reignited debate around the case, especially following a February 18, 2025 ruling by a Yaba magistrate court clearing Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy of any involvement. The court said investigations found no evidence linking them to Mohbad’s death. Focus has since shifted to an auxiliary nurse and a friend who remain under scrutiny.
Sharing the screenshot, Fabiyi accompanied it with a lengthy caption, repeating claims that Mohbad was involved in a violent altercation with his partner shortly before his death. He also alleged that individuals “close to the President” were shielding those responsible.

Fabiyi wrote in part:
“CONFESSION from Mohbad’s younger brother… Those shielding the murderer of Mohbad are close to the President… Mr President, check around you.”
Authorities have not yet responded to the latest claims, and no independent verification of the chat has been made.
As renewed allegations spread online, Nigerians continue to demand clarity, accountability, and definitive answers regarding the late singer’s death.
