Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally joined the Accord Party, days after announcing his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor made the declaration on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, alongside national and state leaders of the Accord Party.

Adeleke stated that he joined the party on November 6, adding that he chose the platform after consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders. He confirmed that he will seek a second term in 2026 on the platform of the “Thumb-Up” party.

He said the move was driven by the need to maintain continuity in governance, noting that the welfare-focused mission of Accord Party aligns with his administration’s priorities.

“We intend to pursue a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends,” he said.

While welcoming party executives, Adeleke stressed the importance of unity ahead of the next election.

“At this historical point, our task is to sustain a united front. Our party, Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance,” he stated.

Adeleke’s defection follows his formal resignation from the PDP on December 2, which he linked to leadership crises at the party’s national level.

In a statement released on Instagram, he confirmed that he submitted his resignation to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4.

“I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me, first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and now as Governor of Osun State,” he said.
