Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has disclosed that his administration constructed 414 roads spanning about 864.12 kilometres within three years in office.

The governor also revealed that his government reduced the state’s debt profile by nearly 60 per cent.

Otti made the disclosure during his monthly media chat titled “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” held in Umuahia.

According to him, the roads constructed under his administration were equipped with street lights and drainage systems.

“We are consistent in terms of delivering street lights with the roads. And of course drainage,” the governor said.

According to Otti, another 82 roads covering about 212 kilometres are currently under construction at different stages of completion.

Speaking on the state’s financial situation, the governor said his administration significantly reduced Abia’s debt burden.

“We have been able to reduce our debt profile significantly by about 60%. From about N191 billion in 2023 to less than N50 billion at the end of 2025,” he stated.

Otti also highlighted improvements in fiscal transparency and accountability, noting that independent rankings showed major progress under his administration.

“The Budget state of the states report moved Abia from No. 17 in 2023 to No. 4 in 2025,” he said.

The governor further disclosed that his administration had identified and recorded assets allegedly acquired illegally as part of ongoing accountability reforms.

On environmental sanitation, Otti said the state now evacuates about 13 tonnes of refuse weekly while over 2,000 jobs have been created through the Abia State Environmental Agency.
