Justrite Superstore has confirmed that the fire incident at its Akowonjo branch in Lagos has been completely extinguished, assuring customers that no lives were lost and the situation has been fully brought under control.

The reassurance came after the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) confirmed that a fire broke out in the electronics section of the supermarket located at No. 116 Akowonjo Road, near Jimoh Bus Stop, Egbeda-Akowonjo, on Thursday morning.

According to the Controller General of the LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, the emergency call was received at about 8:15 a.m., with firefighters from the Abesan and Agege Fire Stations arriving at the scene by 8:28 a.m. Firefighters immediately launched coordinated operations to prevent the blaze from spreading to other sections of the commercial building.

In an official statement released after the incident, Justrite expressed gratitude to emergency responders and stakeholders for their swift intervention.

“Following the fire incident at our Akowonjo branch, we are pleased to confirm that the fire has been completely extinguished and the situation has been fully contained,” the company stated.

It added that the prompt response of emergency services ensured the incident was brought under control quickly and effectively.

“We remain committed to the safety of our customers, employees and host community, and we appreciate the continued support and understanding of the public,” the statement added.

The Lagos Fire Service also confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident, while recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing.

Preliminary findings by the agency suggest the fire may have originated from the building’s solar inverter system, although investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause.

The incident occurred just hours after a gas-laden tanker caught fire along Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
