Labour Party supporter, Nnamdi Chude has been arrested and at the moment in Abuja after being detained at the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka by the Professor Charles Soludo-led government.
According to reports made available to VerseNews, thugs suspected to be members of Soludo’s party – of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) invaded many polling units during the House of Assembly elections held on Saturday March 18.
It was gathered that the thugs snatched ballot boxes to disrupt the voting process and cause chaos at the polling units in favour of APGA candidents contesting alongside LP candidates.
Chude who is an eyewitness raises alarm via his Twitter page and wrote; “#Breaking: APGA thugs are on rampage in Trans-Nkisi, 3’3 & Awada snatching ballot box. LP is winning comfortably across Anambra,”
He then compared Soludo’s inability to stop election violence in the state to that of his distant predecessor, Mr Mbadinuju, whose tenure witnessed a surge in brazen crimes and blatant disregard for the rule of law.
“I can’t remember the last time I heard of ballot box snatching in Anambra. this is the height of it,@CCSoludo has taken us back to Mbadinauju’s era,” Chude added.
According to a source who craved anonymity, Chude was arrested by security operatives around 5:30 p.m on Saturday and was detained at the Awka’s SCID before taking him to Abuja.
Confirming the arrest, Oby Patience, the former Minister for Education and Solid Minerals under former president Olusegun Obasanjo said Chude was arrested for cybersecurity crimes according to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Echeng Eworo Echeng.

She wrote; “I have an update on @chude, according to Governor @CCSoludo, the Commissioner of @PoliceNG for Anambra confirmed to him that Chude was arrested for cybersecurity crimes by @PoliceNG, @Interpol and taken to Abuja. Now we must ask the IGP @NigeriaGov to disclose his crime.”
Oby therefore called on the Nigeria Police to unveil the cybersecurity crimes committed by Chude for supporting the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.
“To arrest a citizen @Chude whose digital footprint is as a visible vocal voice for @NgLabour Presidential Candidate @PeterObi on allegations of cybersecurity crimes places a DUTY on the @PoliceNG @Interpol @NigeriaGov to transparently disclose the crimes to the public. Do so,” Oby added
Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act 2015, signed by former president Goodluck Jonathan, criminalises the use of a computer or network for any person to intentionally send a message “he knows to be false, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to another.”
