Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced that the pupils and teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity will remain under medical observation for 48 hours before being reunited with their families.

The governor made the disclosure on Saturday after visiting the victims at the Headquarters of the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan, where they are receiving treatment following their rescue by security operatives.

According to Makinde, the rescued victims will undergo comprehensive medical evaluation and psychological assessment before being formally handed over by the military to the Oyo State Government for rehabilitation and reintegration.

“The rescued victims will remain under medical observation for the next 48 hours, after which an assessment will be conducted before their formal transfer from military authorities to the Oyo State Government for further management and rehabilitation,” he said.

Makinde confirmed that all 39 abducted pupils and five of the seven teachers had been rescued alive, describing the development as a moment of gratitude and relief for the state.

The governor extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers, assuring them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

Speaking on the victims’ condition, Makinde said many appeared physically weak after their prolonged ordeal and would require medical treatment and psychosocial support to recover from the trauma of captivity.

He also disclosed that arrangements were underway to reunite the victims with their loved ones, noting that one of the rescued girls had repeatedly asked to see her mother since regaining her freedom.
