The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Wednesday March 22 declared Alex Otti of Labour Party (LP) winner of the of the governorship election in Abia State.

VerseNews Nigeria reports that the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state, Prof Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti declared Otti the winner on Wednesday evening.

Reacall that the collation of the result resumed in Umuahia, the Abia State capital barely 48 hours after it was suspended by the Commission.

According to the result, Otti polled a total of 175,467 votes to defeat Okey Ahiwe the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 88,529 votes and Enyinnaya Nwafor of YPP who came third with 28,972 votes.

The LP candidate also won 10 of the 17 local government areas in the state, PDP got six while the YPP got one.

This Online News Media reports that Otti in his third attempt become the first LP governor in the last 20 years was when Olusegun Mimiko was elected Ondo State governor from February 2009 to February 2017.

Otti the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2015 and 2019 elections.
