Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election Peter Obi has arrived the Appeal Court in Abuja to begin the journey of restoring what he tags ‘the people’s mandate.’

VerseNews Nigeria reports that Obi is among the aggrieved candidate in he February 25 presidential election challenging the victory of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu at about 4:15am on Monday March 1, 2023 declared Tinubu the winner of the election.

According to Yakubu, the formal Lagos governor polled 8,794,726 votes to win the election.

He declared that Atiku came second with  6,984,520 votes, while Obi as the third runner-up with  6,101,533 votes.

However, Obi has refused to accept the outcome of the election on the ground that it lacks credibility, transparency and contradicts the Electoral Act, 2022.

This Online News Media reports that the former Governor of Anambra insisted he wants to contest the process leading to INEC’s declaration of Tinubu as the president-elect.

“I want to state categorically that at the Presidential Elections Tribunal (PET), I am challenging the INEC electoral process that led to the declaration of Tinubu as president-elect as well as the declaration itself,” Obi said.

Obi has in his petition asked the court to nullify Tinubu’s victory and declare him the winner of the election or cancel the election and conduct a fresh one.

Some of the points he raised in the petition include allegations of Drug case/$460,000 forfeiture, Scoring below 25% in FCT, Forged certificate, INEC’s procedural flaws and Shettima’s double nomination.
