Barely 24 hours after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, mistakenly announced to senators that the National Assembly Clerk would disburse money to bank accounts of senators for them to enjoy their enjoy their holiday, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has threatened to sue Akpabio over comment.

VerseNews Nigeria gathered that the backlash from Nigerians following the comment mistakenly uttered by the Senate President on Monday at the adjournment of plenary.

“In order for us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clark of the National Assembly,” he said.

The Senate President on notice that he was on live broadcast withdrew the statement.

In reaction, SERAP in a statement issued on its official X account, formerly known as Twitter, said it will proceed to the court to sue the Senate President

“We’re suing the Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the alleged payments of “holiday allowances” by the Clerk of the National Assembly into the “various accounts” of senators while some 137 million poor Nigerians face severe economic hardship,” SERAP stated.

Although, the rights group is yet to release details lawsuit, the petitioners and the charges against the Senate President.
