As it is said, the future is unpredictable. This is evident in relation to the current activities among key players in Nigeria’s political terrain.

VerseNews reports that the former governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike is one politician in this country that care less about some of his comments while he was an active member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It would be recalled that Wike who boastfully and publicly said he would not accept ministerial appointment from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu few days after the February 25 presidential election but low and behold, the former Rivers state governor is now a Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) despite in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a video captured by Arise TV, Wike during the heat of the 2023 general election was heard condemning comments credited to some presidential aspirants in the APC who anchored their campaign to continue with the legacy of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari when they would be elected. A key figure of the party’s presidential aspirants as at then was Bola Tinubu.

Wike in his condemnation said, “When I hear people declaring for APC saying they want to continue the good job of Mr President (Buhari), the good job that people are dying everyday, the good job that naira is falling everyday, I feel so ashamed that we’ve gotten to this level of sycophancy, that I want to continue the good job of Buhari.

“What is the good job of Buhari? Of hunger is the good job? Of poverty is the good job?, Of insecurity is the good? Of the economy falling is the good job. It’s such a shameful thing. I can’t believe that somebody would come out in this Nigeria and say I want to continue from where Mr Buhari has stopped. May God forgive, may God never allow such people to rule?”

What would make of his time as a minister in the APC after condemning Tinubu’s vision in continuing the good job of Buhari which he (Wike) condemned.

Wike’s recent move – first accepting his ministerial nomination and appointment is a display and a prove that our political leaders are men without shame and honour.

It is a testament that anyone putting their hope and trust on these set of leaders are doing it on their own volition.

How would you still be a follower of a political office holder after losing out on his party’s primary vowed never to accept a ministerial appointment from the opposition party is seen romancing with the same opposition party.

How would you still continue to be a follower of a politician who outrightly condemned and rubbished comments credited to presidential aspirants in the APC who said they would continue on the good job of Buhari when elected.

Where is the place of integrity in Nigeria’s political space that players no longer make their words their bonds.

This is why after more than two decades there is no development in the country that one can boast of, it is because we lack men of integrity, men who cannot stick to their guns in our political space that is why anything goes because of money.
