Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called for guidance to be provided to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, regarding the operation of the FCT administration.
VerseNews reports that Kingibe emphasized that Wike does not possess executive powers and must operate within the constitutional frameworks of the country’s legislative arm.
During a press conference following the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal’s validation of her victory in the February 25 polls, Kingibe expressed her views.
She pointed out that the FCT Minister collaborates with the National Assembly and the President to administer the FCT, emphasizing the need for cooperation between these entities.
Kingibe criticized Wike’s recent appointment and inauguration of mandate secretaries for the FCTA, asserting that federal lawmakers should have screened them.
She likened the role of the National Assembly in relation to the FCTA to that of state Houses of Assembly with respect to state governments.
Senator Kingibe stressed the importance of guiding Wike, who is relatively new to the FCT, in fulfilling his duties as the FCT Minister.
She acknowledged the tribunal’s affirmation of her election as an FCT senator and expressed her readiness to commence the work the people elected her to do.
Regarding threats of demolitions in the FCT, Kingibe acknowledged that demolitions may occur due to various problems within the FCT, such as flooding caused by construction in flood-prone areas.
