VerseNews reports that Nigeria First Lady, Aisha Buhari through her verified Instagram account shared a press statement that the old N200, N500 and N1000 old notes remain a legal tender for the period of 70 days.

It reads: “Due to the current and unpleasant situation happening in Nigeria, In line with Mr. president. After having a closed meeting with him on the 20th of February, 2023, Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN) has been directed to ONLY reissue and recirculate the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes and this expected to circulate as a legal tender for 70 days up to May 1, 2023. Members of the public should also continue to spend the old notes.”
“Media practitioners are advised to PLEASE spread out this useful information to the member of the public.”
Reacting to the press release, the CBN in its verified Twitter account said “It is fake and should be disregarded”
This Online Newspaper earlier the Apex bank has urged the members of the public to disregard any message directing them to deposit their old N500 and N1000 notes with their bank as they cease to exist as legal tender. Read here.
