Soludo casts vote, alleges vote buying

Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Nonye Soludo, cast their votes at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday at their polling unit in Isuofia.

Soludo, careful to keep his voter card secure, retrieved it from an envelope before casting his ballot. After voting, he encouraged fellow Anambrarians to participate in the election, describing the voting process at his unit as “smooth and well-organized.”

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, the governor alleged that a political party candidate has been engaging in vote buying, aiming to influence voters at his polling unit.

Only APGA, APC present agents in most Awka polling units

Two political parties, whose candidates are deemed to be the top contenders in today’s governorship election in Anambra, have proven to be truly dominant in the state by presenting agents in most of the polling units visited.

In most polling units around the state capital, Awka, only the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had their party agents on the ground.

INEC Officials Arrive in Awka as Voting Gets Underway in Anambra Governorship Election

  • Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have arrived at several polling units in Awka (Anambra) and voting is beginning, after earlier delays that left voters and observers frustrated.

Voting has begun in parts of Awka, the Anambra State capital, as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INE) finally arrived at polling units following earlier delays.

At Agu Awka, polling units 008 and 022 at Aroma Junction, Awka South Local Government Area, officials were pasting the names of eligible voters and preparing to commence accreditation. Shouts of excitement and victory were heard from some early voters as preparations advanced.

Despite assurances that voting would commence at 8:00 a.m., many polling units in Awka had no electoral officials on site by 8:30 a.m., prompting frustration among voters and observers who had assembled since early morning. An accredited INEC observer from JDPC, Mr. Charles Kwentoh, expressed disappointment at the delay.
