The American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID) has condemned the killing of Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, describing the incident as a brutal and preventable tragedy.

In a statement dated February 19, 2026, and signed by its President, Dr. Sylvester Onyia, the group expressed “profound sorrow and outrage” over the monarch’s death, which reportedly occurred on February 18, 2026, following an attack by suspected armed men.

According to AVID, eyewitness accounts described the attackers as armed men speaking Hausa and operating in a pattern similar to groups that have carried out attacks in several parts of the country. The organisation extended condolences to the monarch’s family, the people of Agamo, Ondo State, and the wider Yoruba community.

The group stated that the incident reflects broader security concerns in Nigeria and referenced long-standing warnings allegedly issued by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), regarding insecurity in the country.

AVID also referenced the trial of Kanu and the role of Justice James Omotosho, noting that the judge, who presided over the case, is from Ondo State. The group argued that addressing perceived injustices in Kanu’s case could contribute to broader national stability — a claim that remains a subject of public debate.

In its statement, AVID maintained that insecurity has spread across multiple regions of Nigeria and urged political and traditional leaders, particularly in the South-West, to reassess their positions on national security and collaboration.

The organisation made several demands, including the immediate and unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, an international investigation into alleged terrorist networks, and increased involvement of global actors in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

It also called on the United States government and the international community to apply diplomatic pressure on Nigeria to address what it described as “selective justice and state-sponsored insecurity.”

AVID concluded by emphasising the need for urgent action, stating that resolving issues surrounding Kanu’s detention and broader security reforms are critical to restoring peace and stability across the country.
