The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed confidence that it can unseat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview, the party’s Deputy National Welfare Secretary, David Itopa, said Nigerians are increasingly frustrated by worsening economic hardship, rising living costs and insecurity under the current administration.

According to him, President Tinubu’s three years in office have failed to deliver meaningful improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens, leaving many Nigerians struggling daily.

Itopa also raised concerns over the country’s security situation, saying kidnappings, violent attacks and other criminal activities continue to threaten communities across the nation.

Despite recent military successes in some areas, particularly in the North-East, he argued that isolated victories do not reflect the broader security challenges facing the country.

The ADC chieftain maintained that Nigerians are eager for change and insisted that the party is well-positioned to emerge victorious in 2027 if the elections are free, fair and transparent.

He dismissed concerns over recent defections to the APC, describing most political defections as being driven by personal interests rather than the welfare of Nigerians.

On possible opposition alliances involving the ADC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Itopa said political developments remain fluid but stressed that the ADC’s immediate priority is strengthening its structures ahead of the next election.

He also called for greater transparency in the electoral process, insisting that real-time electronic transmission of results is essential to restoring public confidence in elections.
