- The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has uploaded the names of Peter Obi and Seriake Dickson to INEC’s candidate nomination portal after the electoral commission restored the party’s access despite its ongoing legal battle over registration.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s access to its candidate nomination portal, allowing the party to begin uploading the names of its candidates for the 2027 general election despite the ongoing legal dispute over its status.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, who described the move as a positive step following the NDC’s appeal against last week’s Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja.
According to Dickson, the party has already filed a notice of appeal and an application for a stay of execution, both of which have been served on INEC, urging the commission to act in line with the law.
He maintained that the NDC remains a legally registered political party and that its primaries, conducted under INEC’s supervision, remain valid.
Dickson disclosed that his name and that of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have already been uploaded to INEC’s nomination portal, while the vice-presidential candidate’s details will be submitted after the necessary documentation is completed.
He assured party members that there was no cause for panic, noting that the NDC still has enough time to upload all candidates before INEC’s deadlines for National Assembly, governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
The former Bayelsa State governor also appealed to unsuccessful aspirants to support the party, revealing that reconciliation efforts were already underway to unite members ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC has consistently maintained that it remains legally recognised pending the outcome of its appeal against the court ruling.
