The Federal Government has launched a digital portal to register and license teachers nationwide, aiming to build a credible database and strengthen professionalism in the sector.

The Federal Government has launched a new digital portal for the registration and licensing of teachers across Nigeria, in a move aimed at strengthening the nation’s teaching workforce and restoring dignity to the profession.

The initiative, unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, is being implemented by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) in collaboration with the UK-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE).

Prof. Ahmad described the portal as a “new chapter” in teacher professionalism, noting that it would not only digitize records but also create a transparent and credible database of qualified teachers.

“With this innovation, we will ensure seamless registration and licensing of teachers nationwide, enable real-time access to professional development, and strengthen accountability while restoring dignity to the teaching profession,” she said.

Also speaking at the launch, Senior Education Advisor at the British High Commission, Ian Attfield, said the UK government was proud to support the project, adding that the portal would help integrate Nigeria’s diverse teaching workforce.
