- Lamine Yamal’s girlfriend, Ines Garcia, has spoken out after facing intense criticism on social media over allegations surrounding her past relationship, urging critics to show empathy and stop sending hateful messages.

Ines Garcia, the girlfriend of Spain international and World Cup star Lamine Yamal, has broken her silence after becoming the target of online criticism following the couple’s public confirmation of their relationship.
The controversy erupted shortly after Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, when Garcia shared a celebratory photo with Yamal on Instagram.
“You did it. Congratulations, my love—you’re a world champion 🤎,” she wrote alongside the picture.
However, the post quickly attracted scrutiny, with social media users alleging that Garcia had been in another relationship just weeks before the World Cup began.
Some online accounts claimed Garcia only started publicly supporting Yamal shortly before the tournament, sharing photos of herself wearing his jersey.
The speculation intensified after an unverified screenshot circulated online, allegedly showing Garcia commenting, “I love you babe,” on a photo with another man.
The authenticity of the screenshot and the claims surrounding her previous relationship have not been independently verified.
Responding to the backlash, Garcia shared a lengthy statement in which she appealed for kindness and condemned the wave of hateful comments directed at her.
“I never imagined that sharing something so simple would turn into this,” she wrote.
“I’ve spent hours reading the comments, and while I try to put on a brave face, I’m human too. Behind this account is someone who feels, cries, and makes mistakes—and being in a relationship doesn’t make me any less human.”
She acknowledged that people are entitled to their opinions but stressed that criticism should not cross the line into harassment.
“I understand that not everyone is going to like everyone else. I understand criticism when it’s respectful. But there is a huge difference between having an opinion and taking the time to humiliate, insult, or wish the worst upon someone you don’t even know.”
Garcia urged social media users to remember that public figures also have emotions and families affected by online abuse.
“You have no idea how your words can affect someone. I am a woman with feelings, with a family that reads these things too, and with good days and bad days, just like anyone else.”
She continued by calling for greater compassion on social media.
“I’m not trying to convince anyone to like me. I’m just asking for a little empathy. A little humanity. Because no one deserves to receive hundreds or thousands of hateful messages.”
“I hope that one day the internet stops feeling like a place where cruelty is celebrated.”
Garcia concluded by thanking those who had supported her, saying she only shares moments from her life without intending to hurt anyone.
“At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to live our lives the best way we can. I hope we can always choose compassion over hate.”
Following the backlash, Garcia reportedly made her X (formerly Twitter) account private.
While Garcia did not directly address the rumours about her alleged previous relationship, many social media users interpreted her statement as a response to the claims.
Neither Garcia nor Yamal has publicly confirmed or denied the allegations circulating online, and there is no verified evidence supporting the claims about her past relationship.
