Oyo Takes Delivery of Two Security Surveillance Aircraft to Combat Kidnapping, Banditry

• The Oyo State Government has received two long-awaited security surveillance aircraft aimed at strengthening intelligence gathering, aerial surveillance, and rapid response operations against kidnapping, banditry, and other crimes.

The Oyo State Government has officially taken delivery of two security surveillance aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s fight against kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities.

The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Tuesday and are expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid security response across Oyo State and neighbouring areas.

Confirming the development in a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, described the arrival of the aircraft as a major milestone in Governor Seyi Makinde’s security agenda.

According to him, the surveillance aircraft will improve the operational capacity of security agencies by providing real-time intelligence and enhanced aerial monitoring.

“The arrival of the aircraft marks another step in the state’s efforts to strengthen security operations through improved intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance,” Oyelade said.

He recalled that Governor Makinde had earlier announced on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.

The commissioner noted that the state government had assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo before the end of July, a promise that has now been fulfilled.

According to Oyelade, the aircraft will support the operations of security agencies, including the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps), as well as other security formations in monitoring criminal activities and responding swiftly to security threats.

Governor Makinde was also present at the airport to officially receive the two aircraft.

The Oyo State Government had first announced the procurement of the surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of broader measures to strengthen the capacity of security agencies to tackle rising security challenges across the state.

The arrival of the aircraft marks the realization of that initiative, which was introduced to combat crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, and other violent offences through the use of modern aerial surveillance technology.

State officials believe the new platforms will significantly improve intelligence-led policing and enhance the effectiveness of ongoing security operations across Oyo State.
