Kano Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf rejects the Court of Appeal judgment that sacked him, upholding the nullification of his election by the state election petition tribunal.
The Court of Appeal decision prompted Yusuf and his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), to reject the judgment, expressing their determination to take the case to the Supreme Court in an effort to retain his seat.
In a broadcast on Friday night, VerseNews reports that Yusuf said he had instructed his legal team to challenge the appeal court-s ruling at the Supreme Court.
“We have consulted all stakeholders and resolved and decided that our lawyers should challenge the Appeal Court kudgment at the Supreme Court.
“We believe and have the confidence that the Supreme Court will reclaim the mandate of the Kano people who voted for us,” he said.
The governor and NNPP are optimistic that the Supreme Court will set aside the judgments of the Tribunal and the Court of Appeal, reaffirming their mandate as given by the people of Kano State.
Yusuf called on the people of Kano State to continue their legitimate activities, assuring that measures have been taken to ensure the security of lives and property.
He urged prayers for Allah’s mercy and protection to save the state from the perceived injustice orchestrated by mischief makers attempting to hijack power through the back door.
