President Tinubu Orders Immediate Employment for 200 Corps Members, Gifts ₦250,000 Each, PhD Scholarship

President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate employment of 200 NYSC honourees, awarding each ₦250,000 and postgraduate scholarships, while 10 physically challenged ex-Corps members will also receive federal jobs.

President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, directed the Federal Civil Service Commission to “immediately provide employment” for 200 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) honourees in recognition of their exceptional contributions during the 2020–2023 service years.

Each award recipient also received ₦250,000 and a postgraduate scholarship to any Nigerian university.

Speaking at the combined President’s NYSC Honours Award Ceremony (2020-2023) in Abuja, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, who represented the President, praised the honourees for their “discipline, commitment, selflessness, teamwork, patriotism, and integrity.”

Tinubu further announced that 10 physically challenged ex-Corps members injured during service would also be given federal employment, adding, “We will never forget their sacrifice.”

The NYSC honours, first introduced in 1974, remain a cornerstone of promoting patriotism, national unity, and community service in Nigeria.

Applauding the NYSC’s role in nation-building since its inception in 1973, the President urged Nigerian youths “to continue to have faith in Nigeria” and resist those “seeking to destabilise the nation.”

The award ceremony celebrated outstanding performers across male and female categories, including:

• Nunaya Polycarp Nunaya (20B – KW/20B/0001) from Adamawa State
• Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (21A) from Imo State
• Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (23B) from Abia State
• Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (23C) from Osun State

Female awardees included:

• Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (21A) from Benue State
• Igwe Anne Chikaodi (23C) from Enugu State

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, lauded Tinubu’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians, noting that many youths now occupy leadership positions across ministries and agencies.
