- Cristiano Ronaldo is inching closer to the historic 1,000-goal milestone, continuing to defy age and expectations at 40 while dominating for Portugal and Al Nassr.
Portugal and Al Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of achieving a record no male footballer has ever reached — 1,000 career goals.
According to Sky Sports, Ronaldo’s recent brace against Hungary in the World Cup qualifiers lifted his tally to an astonishing 948 goals across club and international competitions — 805 at club level and 143 for Portugal.
The Portuguese superstar also became the all-time leading scorer in World Cup qualifying history, surpassing Carlos Ruiz (39 goals), while Lionel Messi sits third with 36.

Despite turning 40 in February, Ronaldo continues to produce elite numbers both domestically and internationally. Competing in the Saudi Pro League, he has scored 104 goals in 117 appearances over four seasons with Al Nassr.

With 32 goals already in 2025 for club and country, Ronaldo maintains a remarkably consistent level of productivity. Since 2010, he has averaged over 50 goals per calendar year, peaking in 2013 with 69 goals — a year that also earned him the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
Amazingly, Ronaldo’s total has dipped below 39 goals in only one calendar year across the last 15 years — a testament to his longevity and discipline.

With Portugal poised to qualify for next summer’s World Cup, and two years remaining on his Al Nassr contract, projections suggest Ronaldo could become the first player in football history to reach the 1,000-goal mark by October 2026, if he maintains his current scoring rate.
