Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has explained why he left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the Accord Party, saying the decision followed weeks of consultations and was driven by the need to sustain his administration’s welfare agenda.

The governor made the announcement at the Government House Banquet Hall, where he received national and state leaders of the Accord Party. He revealed that he had formally joined the party on November 6 and will seek re-election in 2026 on its platform.

Adeleke said the Accord Party’s philosophy aligns with his government’s focus on workers’ welfare and improved service delivery.

“The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. Since I joined the party, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party,” he said.

He added that his government has prioritised development across the state through policies and programmes aimed at improving lives.

According to him, the move was also necessary to maintain unity ahead of the next election. He urged party members to work together as they prepare for 2026, saying the Accord Party will serve as a platform to continue the ongoing projects and reforms in the state.

Adeleke’s defection was preceded by a formal resignation from the PDP, which he attributed to leadership crises at the party’s national level.
