The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday secured the conviction of former Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku, who was sentenced to 72 years imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Abuja for money laundering offences involving ₦868.46 million.

The anti-graft agency disclosed that Nwabuoku was found guilty on multiple counts after being prosecuted on amended charges filed in January 2025.

Nwabuoku, who briefly held the position in May 2022 following the suspension of Ahmed Idris, was removed weeks later. During the trial, the EFCC revealed that he conspired with several companies to convert funds suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, in violation of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended).
