VIDEO: ‘DNA Test Is a Must’ — Nearly 3 Years After Mohbad’s Death, Father Refuses Reburial Until Liam’s Paternity Is Resolved

- Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, says the late singer will not be reburied until the DNA test involving Liam is concluded.

Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has insisted that his son’s remains will not be reburied until the ongoing DNA dispute involving his grandson, Liam Aloba, is concluded.
Speaking after proceedings at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu on Tuesday, Aloba said the DNA test is no longer just about establishing Liam’s paternity but is also crucial to uncovering the truth behind Mohbad’s death.
“This DNA test is a must. The issue goes beyond paternity. We are trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. His death was not natural, so the DNA test has become the most important issue delaying his burial,” he said.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and his body was later exhumed for an autopsy. Nearly three years later, the controversy surrounding the paternity of Liam and the circumstances of the singer’s death remains unresolved.
Counsel to the Aloba family, Oladayo Ogungbe, told the court that the family is requesting a transparent DNA process to be conducted in a court-approved and credible laboratory. He alleged that two laboratories reportedly nominated by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, and the Lagos State Government’s welfare officer confirmed they had not conducted the test.
The lawyer also revealed that the family opposed a separate suit filed by Omowunmi seeking a DNA test, arguing that it amounts to an abuse of court process. He added that an earlier proposed laboratory was rejected because it was a cancer research centre not equipped for tissue-based DNA analysis.
Following the hearing, Chief Magistrate Salamah Matepo adjourned the matter until August 11, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings.
Joseph Aloba maintained that Mohbad’s remains are still key evidence in the investigation and should not be buried until the DNA test is completed.
