Ondo State Government has set up a taskforce across its three senatorial districts to arrest and sanction students caught roaming the streets during school hours, warning that heads of schools will also be penalised.

Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, issued the warning on Tuesday in Akure, stressing that the clampdown on truancy is in line with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s directive.

He disclosed that a taskforce, made up of retired principals and teachers, will be set up across the three senatorial districts to monitor and apprehend students found loitering during classes.

“Any student caught roaming the streets will be apprehended and sanctioned, while the head of the concerned school will also face disciplinary action,” Ajibefun said.
